IF: Asleep

This week's theme was "Asleep", which immediately made me think of my cat. I think when cats are asleep it is the most peaceful and calming thing in the world!

IF: Safari

"Safari" was this week's theme. I decided to go with a more fun quirky style and experiment by limiting my color palette. I particularly enjoyed drawing the elephant and the bird.

IF: Beginner

This is my entry for the theme 'beginner'. A baby is a perfect symbol for a perfect 'beginning'. It is about the beginning of life and learning as well as taking its first steps towards something. In this scenario, the baby wants the milk but in reaching for it, it learns to crawl and eventually this method will teach him to walk!

IF: Bicycle

Another Illustrator/Photoshop collaboration. I really need to catch up on the themes I've missed. This piece has a more girly feel.

IF: Journey

Oh, I'm behind with these again. Was a little bit busy lately, so I have some catching up to do. This is a scribbly, naive style I was trying, though I do think there is definite room for improvement. At least it is finished. :)

IF: Bottled

Bottles, bottles, bottles... How I love the shape of them! Really fun to draw. So, you've guessed it, the theme is - "bottled". I was going for the idea of bottled emotions/feelings.
As, many may have noticed, I like minimalism a lot!

IF: Duet

Here is my entry for this week. I was going for a 70's movie poster vibe with this. Again, this is a very quick thing I made today.

IF: Toy

This is a very quick one. I felt like playing around with lines and squiggles this week. My toy of choice is the spinning top.

IF: Cultivate

Here is my entry for the topic "Cultivate". Really had a hard time thinking about what to illustrate, so I decided in the end to take the Typographic route, since it is something that I haven't posted on this blog yet. I combined two different fonts to illustrate the word.

IF: Stir - 2nd version

This is a different version of my submission. This one somehow may work better as an image.

IF: Stir

The topic for this week was "stir", but ever since the disasters hit Japan, it has been hard to think about anything else. The horrific events in Japan made me really think about how fragile and vulnerable our world truly is, especially when facing a natural disaster. Despite our advances in technology, with the help of which, we are able to control many aspects of our life, we are completely helpless when nature decides to revolt. My image is about the stirrings within the earth.
Let us all pray for Japan and its people and the many victims of this terrible tragedy.

Update: See Stir - Second version. It differs slightly but may work better as an image.

IF: Warning

This week's theme was "Warning". Had a bit of a creative block, but then decided just to go with whatever image came to mind first, associated with the theme. In this case, it was a wire fence with warning symbols of all sorts protecting a top secret venue.

IF: Swarm

I found this topic quite challenging because I thought the topic was quite limited to the theme of insects, and I don't like to be too literate in image making. So I decided to depict a "swarm" of people as my illustration subject for this week. The exercise was good for me, since it provided me with an opportunity to practice making patterns. I haven't really done any before and this week's topic allowed me to do that.

IF: Layers

This week's topic was "Layers". I've whipped this one up very quickly, as I already had an image of it in my mind. An onion is a fairly obvious thing that comes to mind in relation to the topic, but I figured it may be an interesting subject to depict. It has so many textures and the translucent golden skins seem to form new hues as they overlap one another. Fascinating! (Although onions make me cry!)

IF: Sweater

"Sweater" was the topic for last week, but this image took longer than expected. I need to work faster. All in all, I am quite satisfied with the result. I really like the 50s/60s storybook aesthetic that was typical for the Little Golden Books of the day.

IF: Reverse

Ok. I've finally finished it. I decided to go with the cooking theme since its always a fun environment. And this image is all about reversing the sides of a pancake on a frying pan!
I also tried to go for a different style to the image I submitted last week.

IF: Surrender

Hello Everyone! I decided to kick-start my blog by illustrating this week's topic for Illustration Friday. The theme was "Surrender". Funny, I just started this blog and I'm surrendering already?
I have appropriated the concept of the infamous James Bond intro with the gun barrel and put my own twist on it. The white flag is the symbol of surrender.
